The IMPLICIT Network supports affirming pregnancy The IMPLICIT Network supports affirming pregnancy care and family building for the LGBTQIA+ community.

LGBTQIA+ patients experience poor birth outcomes at a higher rate and face barriers to care including difficulty finding an affirming provider.

Providers express receiving less training and knowledge around meeting the healthcare needs of LGBTQIA+ patients and desire more education.

As a Network, we continue to take the necessary steps to ensure our care models are affirming and accessible to all LGBTQIA+ patients at our Network sites. We offer educational opportunities for all our sites on providing affirming perinatal and interconception care. Gender inclusive language (ex: birthing person) is at the core of all our IMPLICIT care models, from patient education handouts to Network data reports.

Swipe to learn more about the findings from research on pregnancy for LGBTQIA+ birthing people, barriers they face, and what affirming care looks like. Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Last week, IMPLICT staff attended the inaugural Pe Last week, IMPLICT staff attended the inaugural Pennsylvania Maternal Health Symposium in Altoona, PA. Hosted by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation (JHF), the symposium brought together healthcare personnel, community-based organizations, policymakers, and those with lived experiences to discuss maternal health innovations, and promote collaboration in advancing the Pennsylvania Maternal Health Strategic Plan.

Staff participated in breakout sessions focused on rural health and maternity care deserts, behavioral health and substance use disorders, and efforts to expand and diversify the healthcare workforce. Presentations emphasized the importance of perinatal health-related social needs screenings and continued support throughout the fourth trimester.

The IMPLICIT Network is dedicated to supporting the efforts of the Pennsylvania Maternal Health Strategic Plan by expanding the utilization of our Interconception Care (ICC) and 4th Trimester models of care, and through our collaborations with other maternal health organizations.

We have to do more than simply repeat that preeclampsia survivors face risks beyond pregnancy—we must recognize the emotional impact, educate, and empower people with tools to be their own best advocates long after pregnancy ends.
